CoinShares announced on October 14, 2026 that it launched a new OnChain Strategies business with Safe Labs and Railnet, allowing enterprise Safe users to earn yield on idle stablecoins while keeping full self-custody, Cryptobriefing reported. CoinShares Capital Markets (Jersey) Limited designs the strategies and manages the associated risk without taking control or custody of user funds.

The arrangement puts three parties into one product: CoinShares as strategy designer, Safe{Wallet} as the interface, and Railnet — the on-chain vault infrastructure layer developed by Kiln — as the plumbing transactions run through. Thenewscrypto reported that each strategy follows a defined mandate, rebalances weekly, and uses no leverage or recursive lending.

Key facts

  • CoinShares announced the OnChain Strategies launch with Safe Labs and Railnet on October 14, 2026; the strategies are designed by CoinShares Capital Markets (Jersey) Limited.
  • Users access the strategies through Safe’s Earn widget from the Safe accounts they already use, and withdrawals can be requested at any time, according to Crypto.news.
  • The product carries no fees for the first six months, is not available to US investors, and yields are not guaranteed.
  • Safe manages about $60 billion in self-custodied assets across 63 million accounts, with roughly $7.5 billion in stablecoins.
  • Earlier in 2026, around June, CoinShares announced a collaboration with Railnet and Kiln on diversified on-chain strategies, which the Safe partnership builds on.

How the strategies generate return

The offering blends two return sources: DeFi yield from on-chain lending and similar protocols, and returns from tokenized real-world assets, which are traditional instruments represented as tokens on a blockchain. Both sit inside what CoinShares describes as a risk-managed framework.

Crypto.news reported that CoinShares has researched how income-producing assets are used in DeFi. Its August 6 Hybrid Finance report with Token Terminal measured real-world asset deposits tripling from $2.3 billion to $7.4 billion between the second quarters of 2025 and 2026, while total DeFi deposits fell about 15% over the same period. That study placed almost 70% of measured RWA deposits on Ethereum and named Aave, Morpho and Kamino as major venues for yield-bearing collateral, with yields of roughly 3.2% to 5.5% across selected strategies. Those figures covered the research sample, not returns promised for the Safe integration.

Launched in 2013 and listed on Nasdaq under CSHR, CoinShares described the arrangement as separating investment strategy design from custody: the asset manager selects strategies and their risks, Railnet supplies the technology, and Safe Labs provides the account interface. In a statement cited by Crypto.news, Safe CEO Rahul Rumalla said the integration lets users reach professionally designed stablecoin strategies through their existing accounts, adding that Safe’s role is to give enterprises and onchain organisations secure, programmable control over their assets. CoinShares co-founder, president and CEO Jean-Marie Mognetti said institutions should not have to choose between maintaining control of their assets and accessing professionally designed yield strategies.

Why it matters

Corporate treasuries, DAOs, foundations, family offices and funds holding idle stablecoin balances have had limited options that satisfy governance and approval processes without handing assets to a third party or an unfamiliar protocol. This integration keeps every deposit inside the user’s existing Safe account and routes it through the account’s existing approval rules, so treasury teams do not have to change how they operate. CoinShares, for its part, gains a distribution channel into a pool it would otherwise have to win client by client — it does not need to build a wallet, onboard users or hold assets. Stablecoin balances globally have exceeded $315 billion, a figure Crypto.news reported was cited from DefiLlama data as of June 23, 2026, and a significant portion of that capital has sat idle.

What to watch

The six-month fee holiday is the clearest thing to track: the test is how much of Safe’s roughly $7.5 billion in stablecoins remains deployed once fees begin. CoinShares is also explicit that yield depends on market conditions and on how well the underlying strategies perform, and the blend of DeFi yield and tokenized RWAs carries smart contract, protocol and underlying-asset risks. CoinShares has said the collaboration is its first major step toward delivering asset management directly on blockchain networks.
