BlackRock crypto ETF assets jump 63% to $79.6B in Q3

In this article4 sections
BlackRock finished the third quarter with $79.6 billion in digital assets under management, a 63% increase from the $48.8 billion it reported three months earlier, according to Wednesday’s earnings report as covered by Coincentral. Even with that gain, the crypto book sat 23% below the $104 billion it reached in September 2025.
The numbers reflect two separate forces. Clients put $7.9 billion of fresh capital into BlackRock’s crypto products between June and September, reversing about $2.2 billion of withdrawals over the first half of the year. Rising prices did the heavier lifting, adding $22.9 billion to the category’s value over the same stretch.
Key facts
- Digital assets under management: $79.6 billion at September 30, up from $48.8 billion at the end of the prior quarter, a 63% rise.
- Quarterly net inflows of $7.9 billion, the strongest quarter since Q3 2025, versus roughly $2.2 billion of first-half outflows.
- Market appreciation contributed $22.9 billion, compared with $7.9 billion from investors.
- BlackRock earned $39 million in third-quarter digital asset fees and securities lending revenue.
- Over the trailing year, investors added $6.3 billion while market moves cut holdings by $30.6 billion.
Price, not deposits, drove most of the gain
BlackRock marks digital assets at market value, which moves independently of client deposits and withdrawals. That distinction matters here: price changes accounted for the bulk of the June-to-September expansion.
Cryptobriefing reported that Bitcoin rose more than 42% during the quarter, moving from roughly $58,564 to about $84,000, while Ethereum also posted notable gains. The outlet cited Arkham Intelligence data showing BlackRock-linked crypto holdings rising about 62% to $77.1 billion, with IBIT’s Bitcoin making up most of that figure. The two outlets frame the same quarter slightly differently: Coincentral reports the $79.6 billion figure and highlights $7.9 billion of net inflows reversing earlier withdrawals, while Cryptobriefing describes the total as approximately $79.6 billion to $80 billion and notes it was the strongest quarterly inflow figure since Q3 2025.
October flows were mixed across products. IBIT attracted $22.4 million on October 9, a session in which US spot Bitcoin ETFs collectively took in $21.1 million, Coincentral reported. Two days earlier, BlackRock’s Ether product, ETHA, recorded $201.89 million in outflows on October 6 while IBIT drew $122 million the same day. Over the past twelve months, US spot Bitcoin ETFs logged $678.9 million in net withdrawals from October 5 through October 9, though BlackRock’s own Bitcoin fund registered a small weekly inflow.
Why it matters
For BlackRock, crypto remains small relative to the rest of the firm. Cryptobriefing reported that total quarterly net inflows reached $205 billion and firm-wide assets hit a record $15.5 trillion, with digital assets contributing about $8 billion of $135 billion in total ETF flows. Coincentral put quarter-end assets across all operations at approximately $15.5 trillion.
The practical takeaway for holders of IBIT and ETHA is that headline AUM is highly sensitive to price. A strong inflow quarter can be erased by a crypto drawdown even if investors leave their positions alone. The report also leaves a gap: BlackRock’s earnings statement did not separate IBIT assets or flows from the broader digital assets category.
What to watch
The $104 billion September 2025 peak is now the stated benchmark. Closing the remaining gap depends on whether the $7.9 billion quarterly inflow pace continues alongside further price appreciation, or whether continued mixed daily flows across IBIT and ETHA point the other way.
